Oswego County trapping Our company removes animals that destroy your lawn, such as moles, ground squirrels, raccoons, voles, opossums, chipmunks, skunks, and more. When we come out to inspect your property we will be able to tell you exactly which animal is causing the problem. We can be able to tell the creature that is damaging your lawn by inspecting the type of damage caused by them. Some examples include: Moles create a series of raised tunnels and dirt mounds that can completely destroy your lawn. The damage they cause can be very extensive. In some cases, they can damage underground irrigation systems. Raccoons can completely tear apart a lawn looking for grubs, especially in the fall. Raccoon damage can be recognized as large chunks of turf torn apart and strewn about. Ground squirrels make a series of tunnels and trails throughout large open areas of the lawn. You may see holes about the size of a silver dollar where they enter and exit. They love to eat flowers and vegetation. Skunks dig looking for grubs, worms, and insects therefore they can fill your yard with divots and holes. You can identify skunk damage as small holes the size of a quarter to a half dollar. Chipmunks also dig a series of tunnels and trails through yards and especially landscaping. They typically like shady areas and eat the roots of plants, often killing them.

Oswego County wildlife control Tip of the Month:

Is Trapping Opossums Legal?
Opossums are more commonly known as possums. These are mammals with pouches in their abdomen to carry young ones like koalas and kangaroos. Possums are omnivore animals. These animals are scavengers and can eat almost anything. They can be quite a nuisance when they have marked your house. It's common for possums to look inside a trash can and sacks for food. They'll even eat pet food. You might have had enough of this annoyance and decided to deal with it. You may opt for the humane way or go down the bloody road. But its best to know what problem you might find yourself in if you are discovered in between your work.

Is it Legal?
Possums are unclassified animals and are not particularly well protected by law. However, the law does forbid killing them. Mostly people encourage making the property less attractive to possums rather than ending their life or trapping them. People build nests for them in nearby wildlife so they may run to those instead of roaming around the property.

Live to trap
In most places, you can trap possums. For this, large steel door traps are used. Raccoon traps are also an option. Bait is used to lure the mammal in and trap it inside the cage. But trapping possums requires a permit, or you might face lawsuits. The most used traps are single door or double door traps.

Can I Kill the Opossums?
Possums are killed all year round everywhere. Although they are protected under the law that forbids you to kill or harm it in any way. Who cares? You can kill it and bury or dispose of it, and no one would be any the wiser. What people do is that they place poisoned bait near places the possum frequently visits. It eats from there and it dies. Others use interesting traps that may or may not make a bloody mess. You can shoot it for all the care in the world. But killing is not always the best of methods, and the world already has a tad bit too much cruelty.

To what extent can I trap them?
If you tried the humane way and entrapped the possum rather than killing it great. But now what? Of course, you'd want to release it somewhere it can never come near you again. Sorry to burst your bubble but if there aren't laws that stop you from trapping doesn't mean there aren't any concerning relocation. Wildlife control went for the overkill on this one. The law states that you cannot release the possums anywhere outside the property it was trapped on, so it isn't a big deal trapping it. But you can release them in wildlife reserves and national parks so there you have it.
